Live
Born in Munich in 1969 but residing in Berlin, Robert Henke is not just a composer but also a sound designer, software developer and teacher.
Almost twenty albums of his have permanently marked the birth and growth of German electronica. Henke contributes to the development of music software Ableton Live. Since Ableton's foundation in 1999, he has had a central role for the growth of Live, which has become the standard instrument for electronic music production and performance, currently used by over 100,000 people worldwide.
Henke writes and holds conferences on sound and creative computer use, and has a sound design teaching position at the University of Arts in Berlin.
Henke's performances and installations have been hosted globally, from Tate Modern in London to Paris's Pompidou Center, from Mudam in Luxembourg to PS1 in New York, from the Art Gallery of New South Wales to Troy's Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), to the Sonar Festival in Barcelona. He is currently working on a laser-based audio-visual installation commissioned by Acousmonium, called INA/GRM, a system of multiple loudspeakers.
Seismic beats, dirty sounds, deep basses, ample lush landscapes and small sound creatures who live in a fascinating and dark planet. Nothing is taken for granted. An audio-visual tour towards new territories.
