Sven Kacirek GER, Pingipung/Kompakt

Friday, June 28th 2013 // 19,15 // Auditorium S. Domenico
Live

Whether he's working on his solo project or performing with choreographers like Antje Pfundtner: Sven Kacirek develops his music with the drumsticks in his hands and in his mind. No big surprise, as he is a musician who has built his reputation upon extraordinary skills as a jazz and drum’n’bass drummer. We don’t hear much classic drumming in his recent productions though, in which he has replaced his drumkit with tons of tiny things to knock on, to hit or to scratch, made out of paper, wood or glass. His sound consists of more than just fancy beats. All of the elements in his pieces, even the melodies and hooklines, are casually constructed from small percussive patterns. Although he completely does without the use of synthesizers, the result appears so electronic sometimes that one might invent the genre "acoustic electronica" for it – if that makes sense. Many of Sven Kacirek’s ideas come up during his live concerts, in which he multiplies himself with samplers, calmly improvising and generating very elaborate structures. Seeing his love and passion for anything percussive, it's only natural that he travelled Kenya in 2009 in order to collaborate with local musicians. The result can be heard on his album “The Kenya Sessions”. (Pingipung/Kompakt, 2011). His new solo album “Scarlet Pitch Dreams” will be released on April 23, 2012.
